Everything You Should Know Before Buying Honda Electric Start Kit

Everything You Should Know Before Buying Honda Electric Start Kit

A recoil starter is standard on Honda engines. You need to pull the starting rope to get the engine going. However, an electric starter is a far superior and more practical option. This may be accomplished using a honda clone electric start, consisting of a charging coil and a suitable flywheel connected to the Honda engine. This mechanism lets you start the engine by merely turning a key rather than using a standard pull-cord! Go-karts, leaf blowers, and lawnmowers are examples of applications where this might be a good fit.

Honda Electric Start Kit Review

The charging coil of a honda clone electric start replaces the typical recoil starter, making it easier for anyone to start the engine. This section will go further into the two distinct kinds of kits. Let’s learn about them one by one.

Honda GX160/GX200 Electric Starter Kit

The following are some of its most distinguishing characteristics:

  • Fits GX160 and GX200
  • The ignition box and key charging coil are included in the purchase price.

Honda GX340 & GX390 Electric Start Kit

The following are some of its most distinguishing characteristics:

  • Compatible with GX340 and/or 390
  • The ignition box and key charging coil are included in the purchase price.

The two finest conversion kits for Honda engines are shown above; both are available for purchase. Honda GX160 and GX200 engines are supported with the first starter kit.

The Honda GX340 and Honda GX390 engines are compatible with the new electric start kit. For this reason, you must select the correct Honda engine. Purchasing the incorrect size will prevent the flywheel and charging coil from being installed.

The electric start kit has the following components:

  • Starter Motor
  • Mounting Hardware
  • Charging Coil
  • Flywheel
  • Ignition Box & Keys
  • An optional Recoil Cover

Instructions for Use

You'll need to follow the instructions below if you want to install a honda clone electric start in a go-Honda kart's engine. Work using an impact wrench compatible with the hardware to install it.

  • Detach the Recoil Starter Cap

You'll need to remove the recoil starting cap to reach the inside portion of your Honda engine. To remove the engine cover, you can leverage an impact wrench. The impact wrench can easily loosen the nuts holding it in place.

Remove the bolts and the cover as soon as they're free. The flywheel and flywheel fan are now accessible.

  • Separate the flywheel and fan to complete this step

The flywheel and its other parts are now secured in place by a nut. Using an impact wrench, loosen the bolt. Finally, detach the white-colored plastic flywheel fan, metal brace, and flywheel.

  • Time to place the Charging Coil

Upon removing the flywheel, you'll notice four mounting points on each corner. The charging coil should be mounted on the left or right of the vehicle from the top.

You can use your Honda engine's mounting points to secure the charging coil. The cables for charging should be oriented toward the right. Use the included mounting hardware and tighten the bolts.

  • Fit the flywheel fan and new flywheel

Once the previous step is completed, you can install the new flywheel present in the kit. Finally, attach the flywheel fan with the metal bracing before tightening the nuts that hold everything in place.

  •  Time to Attach the Engine Starter and Recoil Starter Cap

The starting motor must now be attached to the Honda engine's right side. Mounting hardware is included as part of the electric starter package.

Reinstall the recoil starter cap with the previously removed bolts after the starter motor has been fitted.

  • The Final Step: Be Careful with the Wiring!

Mount the ignition box on the right side of the Honda engine. You can move to the last stage if you've completed the previous one.

The wiring must be connected, and that's the last step! Connect the following from Ignition Box:

  1. Use a single wire to connect to the oil alert box
  2. Use another wire and connect it to the charging coil
  3. One to the positive (+) side of the starting relay.
  4. As a last note of caution (-)

Ensure that the polarity is correct before you begin. You should connect your go-kart battery's positive wire to the positive connection (+). The negative (-) connector should also be on the engine. What if you switch the polarities? In that case, you'll damage the ignition box, so be cautious!

Buyer’s Guide

Are you considering an electric start kit for your engine? Don’t forget to learn about the currently available options! We will discuss these starter kits' contents and compatibility in detail in the next part of the buyer's guide.

Compatibility

Compatibility is unquestionably the most critical consideration. Based on the series, this engine comes in a variety of sizes. As a result, you must be certain that the electric starter kit you choose is compatible with your vehicle.

Listed below are all identical-capacity GX Honda engines. This signifies that you may use the flywheel with a certain model. Due to their similar sizes, the GX340 and GX390 models share starter kits.

One hundred and twenty-four and twenty-sixty-eight and twenty-nine

Packaged Items

A flywheel, an initiation box, a starter motor, a coil (for charging), an activation key, and mounting hardware should be included in most electric start kits for Honda engines. Kits that include a recoil cover are also available, as are setups that merely include the charging coil.

That means you have to find a compatible flywheel or make sure your current flywheel is safe. Before making a purchase, you must carefully skim across the product description to know what is included.
